Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Bug Pods attach to the wall?
The Bug Pod attaches to the bathtub wall
with either super-strong adhesive strips or screws. You may choose
which option to use. Additionally we can obtain suction cup option as well as a
silicone adhesive option on request for a small charge.
How much weight will the Bug Pod hold?
The amount of weight the Bug Pod can hold varies,
depending on the mounting option used. The adhesive strip option will
hold up to 5.5kgs of toys and accessories and the screw-mounting
option will hold up to 11kgs. The suction cup option will hold up to 2.25kgs, and the silicone adhesive option will hold up to 5.5kgs.
What kind of adhesive is used on the Bug Pod?
The Bug Pod comes with four super-strong adhesive
strips already attached to the wall bracket. This unique adhesive
creates a semi-permanent bond that will withstand moisture. The
adhesive can be removed and will not leave any residue on wall
surfaces.
What type of wall surface should the Bug Pod be mounted on?
The adhesive strips and the suction cups both require a
smooth, flat surface for mounting. Acrylic, glass, and fiberglass
surfaces, as well as ceramic tile, are ideal for mounting the Bug Pod using the adhesive strips or the suction cups.
Are there any surfaces that should be avoided when using the adhesive strips?
The adhesive will not stick to silicone tile, estimated to be
2-3% of all household tile. When using either the adhesive strips or
the suction cups, avoid surfaces that are textured, pebbled, or uneven,
as well as surfaces with very small tiles. It is also important to
avoid mounting the Bug Pod on a curved surface, such as in
the corners of fiberglass showers.
Can the adhesive strips on the mounting bracket be reused if my Bug Pod is removed from the wall?
No, the adhesive strips are meant for one-time use only. When
the adhesive is first attached, a chemical bond is created and removing
the adhesive breaks this bond. Replacement strips are available to
purchase - please discuss this with the retailer you purchased your Bug Pod from.
How long do I have to wait after mounting the Bug Pod before using the tub or shower?
Leave the mounting bracket hanging by itself for 24 hours.
During this time, avoid moisture and the use of cleaning chemicals near
the bracket. Avoid putting unnecessary pressure on the bracket for the
first 72 hours. After this time, the semi-permanent bond will be
thoroughly set and the Frog Pod or Bug Pod will be ready for regular
use.
How should I prepare my wall surface before mounting the bracket with the adhesive strips or the suction cups?
The surface must be thoroughly cleaned and dry before
attaching either the adhesive strips or the suction cups. First, use a
bathroom cleaner to remove all dirt and residue from the surface. Be
sure to rinse all cleaner residue from the surface as well. Next, use
rubbing alcohol (without emollients) to wipe the surface and let dry
thoroughly before attaching the bracket.
Will temperature affect the quality of the adhesive bond?
The adhesive requires that the initial bond be created on a
wall surface that is above 70 F degrees. Ideally, the wall temperature
should remain above 70 F degrees for the initial 24 hour period.
Will hard water deposits affect the quality of the adhesive bond?
It is best to avoid areas of the shower/tub surface where
there could be hard water deposits because the adhesive may not stick
to these surfaces. If you do have hard water, we recommend using a
cleaner made specifically for removing hard water deposits before using
alcohol to wipe the mounting surface.
How do I remove the adhesive strip mounting bracket?
To remove the adhesive strip mounting bracket, use a flat
object, such as a screwdriver or a butter knife (covered with a soft
cloth to avoid scratching the wall surface), to pry up the corner of
one adhesive strip. The remaining adhesive strips can then be released
from the wall (with a bit of elbow grease!) After loosening the first
strips, rotate the bracket to release the remaining strips. Any
adhesive remaining on the wall can be easily pulled off.
Do you have any suggestions to help ensure a good bond when using the adhesive strips?
- It is very important that you place the bracket onto the
wall in its proper position only once. After it is placed on the wall,
do not try to remove and reposition it as this will prevent the adhesive
strips from adhering to the wall.
- To attach bracket to the bathtub/shower wall, select an area where strips are touching the least amount of grout.
- It is important to maintain a wall surface temperature above
70˚F from the time you first place the bracket onto the wall and
throughout the entire 24 hour period before attaching the base. If you
are mounting the bracket on an exterior wall during cold weather, it may
be necessary to increase the room temperature during this time.
- When placing the bracket onto the cleaned wall surface, use
thumb to press firmly over each of the adhesive strips. Rub while
pressing to remove any air bubbles between adhesive strips and wall
surface. If adhesive strips cross grout lines, be sure to firmly press
adhesive into recessed areas.
